“Did you ever stop to think, and forget to start again?”
– Winnie the Pooh –
As a street photographer, I have to admit, there’s something absolutely amazing about taking random photos of strangers on the streets. I think part of it is the varied reactions I get when I point my camera towards them. Sometimes I’ll get a smile, other times a frown, but then there are the times when I’ll get virtually no expression at all….like the couple in the photo above. Honestly, I’m not sure which surprises me more. The smiles of course are much welcomed and reciprocated. The frowns are expected and usually diffused with an energetic & subtly apologetic “Thank you!”. The expressionless gazes are the ones that catch me most off guard though. It could be that my 1/500th of a second shutter speed catches them at just the right moment, freezing them in place for all to see…but it seems to me, most subjects continue staring blankly even after I’ve lowered the camera. I’m left wondering “What are they thinking?” …which I’d guess is exactly what they were thinking about me.
Thanks for visiting my site. I hope you enjoy this image as much as I enjoyed creating it.
